Institute of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Biotechnology- University of Colombo

Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons for the Post of Director, Institute of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (IBMBB), University of Colombo.

The mission of the IBMBB is to “Initiate, promote, facilitate advance research and human resource development in Molecular Life Sciences to achieve National and International Development.”

The IBMBB is equipped with advanced and state of the art equipment to undertake postgraduate training and research in Molecular Life Sciences.

The Director of the IBMBB is the academic and administrative head and the period of appointment is for three years. He/ she is expected to provide academic leadership to on-going postgraduate teaching programs, research programs, establish national and international academic links, organize and run international conferences. he/ she should be able to attract local and foreign competitive funding to achieve the objectives of the mission of the IBMBB. He/ she should have excellent acquaintance and familiarity with the current status of Molecular Life Sciences in general. The institute runs two MSc courses, one on Molecular Life Sciences and the other on Cellular and Molecular Immunology. The Director is required to contribute to the teaching programs of these courses as well.

Academic qualifications and other requirements:
1. should have obtained first of second class honours in a special degree in biological sciences or medical or veterinary sciences
2. should have obtained a PhD from a recognized university in one of the following disciplines: Biochemistry, Physiology, Molecular Biology or Genetics
3. should have at least 15yrs of experience of research and teaching in a recognized university or equivalent experience in a recognized research Institute after obtaining PhD
4. evidence of excellent track record of continuous research in the fields of Molecular Life Sciences in terms of publications in peer reviewed international journals
5. evidence of successful supervision of MPhil/ PhD students
6. evidence of having obtained competitive research funds from National and International funding agencies

Age: preferably under 58yrs of age at the time of application.

Applicants are required to send three copies of full Curriculum Vitae and a statement (not exceeding 500 words) of his/ her vision, plan and strategy for the development of IBMBB. Applicants from higher educational institutes and government institutions are required to forward their applications through the respective Heads of Institutions.

Salary: The salary scale attached to the Post of Director, IBMBB, is U-AC5 (II) Rs.50905 – 13x850; 61, 955 p.m.

In addition, official transport will be provided and an entertainment allowance will be paid in accordance with UGC regulations. If a Senior Professor is appointed to the Post of Director (IBMBB), he/ she will continue to receive the salary and other allowances attached to the Senior Professor post together with the allowances applicable to the present post.
